Say goodbye to brittle nails

If you’ve ever struggled with brittle, fragile nails that seem to break or split at the slightest touch, you’re not alone. Many of us have spent a small fortune on nail strengtheners, supplements, and salon treatments that promise to give us the strong, healthy nails of our dreams, only to be disappointed with lackluster results.
But what if there was a simple, almost effortless trick that could transform your nails for good? My nana swears by it, and I’m here to share her secret with you.
The Problem with Brittle Nails
Brittle nails can be a source of frustration and embarrassment for many people. They can be caused by a variety of factors, including:
Frequent exposure to water and harsh chemicals: Washing dishes, cleaning with strong detergents, and even frequent hand washing can strip your nails of their natural oils, leading to dryness and brittleness.
Nutritional deficiencies: Lack of essential nutrients such as biotin, vitamins A, C, D, and E, and minerals like iron and zinc can weaken nails.
Aging: As we age, our nails naturally become thinner and more prone to breakage.
Health conditions: Certain health issues, such as hypothyroidism, psoriasis, and eczema, can contribute to brittle nails.
Overuse of nail polish and acetone-based removers: Constant application and removal of nail polish can weaken the nails and make them more susceptible to splitting and breaking.
With so many potential causes, it’s no wonder many people find it challenging to maintain strong, healthy nails. However, my nana discovered a remarkably simple solution that has kept her nails strong and resilient for decades.
Nana’s Nail-Strengthening Secret: The Olive Oil Trick
My nana’s trick for combating brittle nails is surprisingly simple and requires almost no effort: a daily olive oil soak. That’s right—plain, everyday olive oil that you probably already have in your kitchen pantry.
Here’s how it works:
Warm a small bowl of olive oil. Nana uses about a quarter cup, just enough to cover her fingertips. You want the oil to be warm to the touch, not hot, so that it is comfortable and safe for your skin.
Soak your nails. Dip your fingertips into the warm olive oil, ensuring that your nails and cuticles are fully submerged. Sit back and relax for 10 to 15 minutes. You can do this while watching TV, reading a book, or listening to your favorite podcast.
Massage the oil into your nails and cuticles. After soaking, take a few moments to massage the remaining oil into your nails and cuticles. This helps to increase circulation and promote healthy nail growth.
Gently rinse with warm water and pat dry. Once you’ve finished massaging the oil, gently rinse your hands with warm water and pat them dry with a soft towel.
Repeat daily or as needed. For the best results, nana recommends doing this daily. However, if you’re short on time, even a few times a week can make a noticeable difference.
