How to clean your balconies and terraces: 10 tips and advice

3) How to clean cement railings

Cement railings are slightly less common, but can still be found in older homes. After sweeping each part, you can proceed to clean up! You can opt for two different solutions, sodium bicarbonate or ammonia, to be mixed in both cases with plenty of water. Scrub well using a soft bristle brush and changing the water when dirty.

4) Clean the aluminum railings of the terrace

Aluminum balustrades are gradually replacing wrought iron ones, because they are more economical and lightweight, often combined with glass panels. The cleaning of the latter is really simpler than in the other cases. Create a mixture with water and Marseille soap. Soak a cloth and wipe it over the railing, then let it dry in the sun. If you wish, you can also use a specific product to preserve the shine of the aluminium.

5) How to wash the balcony floor

Cleaning the floor is surely the most difficult part of cleaning balconies. These are made of very different materials from each other, and each requires specific products or solutions. But first, using a broom, remove the leaves and dust from the ground. If you can’t figure out exactly what your floor is made of, choose the least aggressive option among all the ones we’re going to see!
