HIV: The first symptoms you shouldn’t ignore.

Here are some of the earliest signs of HIV that people should not ignore. These can appear within 2–4 weeks after exposure and resemble flu-like symptoms, which is why they’re often overlooked:

  1. Fever
    A sudden, unexplained fever is one of the first signs.

  2. Fatigue
    Extreme tiredness that doesn’t go away with rest.

  3. Swollen lymph nodes
    Especially in the neck, armpits, or groin.

  4. Sore throat
    Persistent, not related to a cold or allergies.

  5. Rash
    A non-itchy rash, often on the upper body or face.

  6. Muscle and joint pain
    Similar to flu or other viral infections.
